Nutrition for new mothers
Good nutrition and a balanced diet are essential for all new mothers, to help them bounce back from the pregnancy and giving birth. This is even more important for those mothers who choose to breast-feed.
After giving birth, women still need extra calories and nutrients, not only for her body to recover but also to produce milk if she decides to breast-feed.

Mothers who are breast-feeding should be encouraged to obtain their nutrients from a well-balanced, varied diet and to drink about 2 litres (3 ½ pints) of fluid per day to maintain their milk production.
