LeDiet was first devised for hospital patients in the 1980’s and the concept has since developed and in 2002 was launched online in France, and is now also available in the UK, US, Spain and Italy.
How LeDiet claims to work
The idea, according to the programme, is that you can reach your target weight without feeling as if you are 'on a diet', and thus preserve your health and wellbeing. The diet, prescribed according to the answers you give in the initial questionnaire, helps you to lose weight by cutting out energy dense foods in you diet and replaces them with lighter options. Favourite foods are not restricted but frequency of these foods as well as portions sizes and cooking methods may be changed. The plan is supposed to be easy to follow and most importantly easy to maintain as it is not intrusive to yours or your family’s lifestyle and the changes in dietary habits are small and sustainable.
The LeDiet regimen
People who are interested in the LeDiet method are invited to fill in an anonymous, confidential and free online questionnaire. From this the LeDiet committee of experts claim to be able to analyse your current eating habits and based on your weight objective, which must be realistic, provide you with a detailed nutritional assessment. It is then claimed that the programme you receive by e-mail, and for which you pay, is designed to meet your own individual nutritional needs and you are provided with a personal diet plan that ‘fits perfectly with your personality, eating habits, tastes and lifestyle’.
To receive your personalised diet plan, you need to signup to LeDiet, which costs £16 per month in the UK. Your monthly subscription, which can be cancelled at anytime, entitles you to:
- Snack guides
- Online menus
- Weight loss tracking tools
- A daily food journal
- Support and advice from dieticians
- Vitamin and mineral guides
From the answers you give on the questionnaire you will be placed in one of 5 weight loss programmes:
- The LeDiet Balance Slimming programme
- The LeDiet Express Slimming Programme
- The LeDiet Anti-Cellulite Slimming Programme
- The LeDiet 45 years Slimming Programme
- The LeDiet After-Baby Programme
Is the LeDiet diet plan healthy?
LeDiet is based on following a balanced diet, rich in a variety of different micro- and macronutrients. The success of the diet is also due to the fact that there are very few restrictions on the LeDiet weight loss programmes. The idea is that the individual adopts small dietary and lifestyle changes and follows the programme in order to see how these simple changes can make significant differences in the long run – both to their weight and overall wellbeing.
To some degree, to maintain these changes and follow the prescribed programme, one needs to have a certain level of self discipline since there are not the same regular weight check ups like there are with some weight loss centres. Particularly for those who undergo the Express Slimming Programme which involves a strong level of determination in the initial phase. On the whole this is a safe diet based on common sense.
The onus is on the individual to follow the plan that is given to them upon completing a self-assessment questionnaire, however there is support and follow up from nutritionists and dieticians if needed.
